Lecture Description

This workshop will offer an overview of the major types of ethical non-monogamy among adults--what they are, why people choose them, and how they can succeed. We'll explore the concept of mono-normativity and the related concept of couple privilege, and how these cultural norms influence and create problems for people engaged in non-monogamous relationships. Finally, we'll explore the tools non-monogamous people have developed to handle issues of jealousy, time management, coming out (or not) and other conflicts.

Objectives

  • Be able to identify the different types of ethical non-monogamy and use the major vocabulary associated with each type.
  • Understand the key concepts of mono-normativity and couple privilege
  • Explain the ways in which hierarchy and jealousy cause problems in polyamorous relationships
  • Explore solutions for the most common relationship problems specific to ethically non-monogamous relationships
  • Equip practitioners that are working with individuals who practice non-monogamy to operate safely within those relationships.

3 Social Work CEUs will be provided for the $65 rate. If you do not need CEUs, the rate is $40 and you can choose the No CEU ticket option.
